Carbon Neutral Plan by MLIT

Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism (MLIT) in Japan implemented on 24th of December 2021 its Carbon Neutral Plan (CNP) towards harbor ports dealing with international logistics to set up relevant technical and administrative environment for receiving hydrogen and ammonia.   This action is supposed to stimulate partnership between operators and expand hydrogen demand. The main aim of this policy is creating an import hub with open access to procure cheap and stable hydrogen and ammonia supply.

MLIT presented a manual, according to which ports administration is obliged to submit their CNP plans, formed together with local businesses (generators, steel and chemical companies and other stakeholders).

To evaluate ports and companies efforts, there is a plan to create a special platform, where all information about carbon neutral activities will be collected, shared and organized.
